currently seeking a Tooling
Plant Manager
for our client located in Warren, Michigan. This
position reports to the Director of Operations.

The Tooling Plant Manager does
lay outs, machines, fits, assembles, and finishes metal parts to make and
repair metal molds for injection of plastic products, analyzing specifications,
and applying knowledge of mold design and construction.

About this role

Essential Functions:

  • Directs department activities to improve production injection molds, tooling techniques, coordinates engineering changes to tooling for part or tool function;
  • Manages and coordinates all plants PM schedules and frequency;
  • Mandates and controls the standardization of injection mold designs and builds;
  • Analyzes technology trends, human resource needs, and market demand to plan projects and facilitate improvements to the tooling build product and process;
  • Confers with program management, production engineering, customer product design, and engineering to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer cost for all injection tooling;
  • Responsible for company’s quoting activity, to facilitate all quote activity for Polymers;
  • Prepares and manages tooling and product feasibility for injection mold manufacturing;
  • Develops and maintains Tooling Standards;
  • Management of the facilities tooling capital investment plan;
  • Problem Solving for internal and external customer’s injection molds;
  • Facilitates tool layouts and validations to meet part design and Tooling Standards;
  • Manages all tooling builds and tooling vendors at a Macro Level;
  • Ensures that facility is provided with adequate Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) support for tooling Engineering Staff;
  • Interface with customers, vendors, and sales for new launches and issues involving current product.

About you

Required Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma/GED Required;
  • Journeymen Mold Maker Certificate, Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or five to eight yeas related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Minimum five years’ machinist and tool making experience required;
  • Expected to have knowledge and understand the function of all mold components and tolerances that are needed to produce a quality mold;
  • Skilled in the use of associated equipment such as standard, surface grinders, drill presses, lathes, etc;
  • Capable of trouble shooting and resolving tooling issues;
  • 10% Travel maybe required.
