Field Engineer

Are you a Field Engineer and interested in joining the team of our client? Our client is a major Oil and Gas company, which is looking for a driven, independent and enthusiastic Field Engineer. The role will be located in Muskrat Falls, NL.

Main Functions:

SCADA or DS Agile Commissioning Engineer for MFA night shift.

Hands on leadership of a team of commissioning discipline engineers and operators in carrying out Pre-Commissioning/Commissioning activities. Provide necessary technical information for the other disciplines during the project. Coordinate the work within the budgeted man hour and project schedule.

About this role


  • Supports the ITO phase of projects with planning and test procedure development;
  • Supports the OTR phase of projects for implementation of the commissioning plan and coordination between design engineering, equipment suppliers;
  • Identify requirements and scope of work, review specifications, drawings and other documents of the project and establish applicability to the scope of work;
  • Carry out a detailed assessment of the commissioning work involved and assess the available resources and possible constraints in its execution;
  • Ability to review contractual documents and identify project requirements and constraints / risks;
  • Be continually present on the field to guarantee the quality and progress of the work;
  • Ability to perform Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and tool box talk to executing the activities;
  • Provide necessary inputs to commissioning proposals at the bidding stage;
  • Inspect and ensure all construction activities are completed prior to taking up the system for commissioning and ensure the setting up of safety procedures for the same. Ensure that all safety and precautionary requirements and procedures are followed during the commissioning;
  • Ability to lead subcontractor for the safe execution of Pre-Commissioning / Commissioning activities in line with the schedule;
  • Be aware of cost monitoring, control expenses, and report overruns to management;
  • Hold regular review of risk assessment/meeting with the client on issues such as EHS;
  • Attend daily meeting with Commissioning manager and team leaders to update the progress and receive daily reports;
  • Regularly contact discipline engineers and supervisors for solving problems related to project execution work safely;
  • Regularly communication with Sub-contractor execution team;
  • Liaise and coordinate with commissioning engineers/supervisors and provide them support and guidelines for technical commissioning related issues;
  • Direct the daily activities related to electrical FAT/SAT, energisation and functional testing;
  • Provide technical support and problem resolving on different electrical equipment: transformer, HV/LV, Switchboard, motors, relay protection systems;
  • Ensure all testing document are available to the testing team and coordinate with field electrical engineering the any corrective action required on the document;
  • Identify any design failures or discrepancies that may be lessons learned for future projects and report same via line management;
  • Perform any other related duties and responsibilities as and when directed by the Supervisor.

About you


  • Bachelor of science degree in electrical or equivalent;
  • A minimum of 2 years electrical or mechanical engineering/commissioning experience;
  • Background in building services, electrical works and commissioning;
  • Site commissioning experience;
  • Prior experience in substation/switch yard commissioning;
  • Organizational, program development and planning mind set;
