Job description


This Research Technician position is intended for an experienced hire with laboratory experience in inorganic materials synthesis and characterization with Applied Technology/Catalyst lab , based in Richmond, CA. 

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to: 

• Catalyst preparation and testing using a variety of reactor types 
• General wet chemistry methods 
• Product characterization 
• Maintain a safe, clean, well-organized lab meeting all safety and environmental regulations 
• Keeping chemical inventory accordingly 
• Maintain data records and laboratory notebooks of sufficient quality to support processes transfer, scale-up and intellectual property protection and patent applications 
• Report data in written and oral reports.

About you

Required Qualifications: 
• B.S. degree in Chemistry or associated disciplines with a specialty in inorganic materials synthesis and characterization 
• Minimum of 0-2+ years laboratory experience 
• Preferred experience in related disciplines 
• Strong background in laboratory experimental work and basic laboratory skills in the areas of inorganic and organic chemistry 
• Good understanding and experience of general laboratory wet chemistry methods 
• Good understanding of pressure/temperature synthesis experiments, including autoclaves 
• Ability to work with complex tasks, complex projects, and multiple tasks at the same time 
• Good computer skills are required – competent in standard Microsoft Office suite of products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) 
• Ability to devise experimental protocols and conduct laboratory and bench-scale research 
• Ability to collaborate and coordinate research activities with other internal and external researchers 
• Ability to identify and propose new research and technology development ideas in collaboration with other researchers and operations and engineering personnel 
• Must be able to interface with other skill sets within research and project teams and effectively integrate key models and data in a timely manner to support team activities and decisions 
• Strong verbal and written communications skills 
• Strong reporting/analytical skills. 
• Candidate should have a demonstrated ability to work within a diverse work team. 
• Ability to lift at least 45 lbs. 

Preferred Qualifications: 
• Experience with small scale production of solid materials and solid materials handling 
• Experience in separating and purifying metals from complex solutions. 
• Synthesis of heterogeneous catalyst materials or similar solid materials 
• Solid and dry materials handling experience, preferably on small scale
