About this role

The open position is with the Research Assistant – Chemical Characterization & Atomic Spectroscopy in the Petroleum Materials & Characterization Unit (PMCU). The Chemical Characterization & Atomic Spectroscopy Team is responsible for metals and non-metals preparation and analyses of a wide variety of organic and aqueous matrices. Sample preparation techniques include direct dilution, microwave digestion, acid digestion, wet ashing and fusion. Various analytical instrumentation used: ICP AES; ICP-MS and hyphenated techniques such as GC-ICP-MS &, LC-ICP-MS, LA-ICP-MS.

  • Prepare samples and perform standard and non-standard analytical measurements using at least one of the following instrumental analyses: ICP-Atomic Emission spectroscopy;
  • Conduct multiple test methods, in aqueous and organic, with ICP-AES instruments such as Thermo iCap and Spectro Arcos;
  • Since this position requires working with multiple test methods, in aqueous and organic, demonstrated proficiency working with assisted acid digestion using microwave technology is desire;
  • Looking for someone with a degree in chemistry or biochemistry and experience working in this area, in the lab.

About you

  • 5-7 yrs of experience;
  • Associate/BA degree in Chemistry;
  • Minimum of three years related experience (outside of school);
  • Proficient with Microsoft (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc);
  • Analytical spectroscopy skills.
