Job description


Seeking a Mine Reclamation Technical Advisor to support their EMC Mining & Specialty Portfolios Business Unit in Questa, NM. The Reclamation Advisor will help support the restoration and re-vegetation of a former molybdenum mine. The Reclamation Advisor will be responsible for gathering new field data, and evaluating existing data, and determining next steps in the process in reestablishing vegetation. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in reclamation/restoration on disturbed lands (preferably mine setting), and have experience communicating and negotiating with state or federal agencies, such as EPA. The position has the potential to extend and/or convert into a permanent role. 

  • Technical Subject Matter Expert in site assessment, evaluation, and reclamation/restoration of disturbed lands, preferably mine sites;
  • Experience in negotiating complex issues with regulators and other stakeholders to advocate for sustainable long term remedial solutions that are based on scientific principles;
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with Corporate project team, other contractors, regulatory agency personnel, public stakeholders and attorneys to negotiate and plan complex, multi-faceted reclamation, remediation, and/or restoration projects within assigned scope, timeframe, and budget. Strong written and oral communication skills;
  • Will provide technical input through all Project Phases;
  • Demonstrated experience in the safe execution of projects in the field. 

About you


Education and experience: 

  • M.S. required (Ph.D. preferred) in biology, botany, natural resource management or related environmental sciences;
  • Requires 5-10 years of direct experience in environmental site assessment, mine or site reclamation, remediation, and/or restoration projects;
  • Previous experience in reclamation/restoration on disturbed lands (preferably mine setting);
  • Experience in negotiating with state or federal agency;
  • MS Suite experience required (Word, Excel, SharePoint, etc.);
  • Experience in wetlands assessment and establishment a plus;
  • Previous experience/companies preferred – 
    o Mining company – US based;
    o Retired from US Government Agency – Department of Agriculture, etc.; 
    o Previous research/academic experience;
    o Open to traveling to various sites across the USA.
